It’s that time of the season again, when nothing in my wardrobe is right. Too warm, too cold, too formal, too relaxed, and too boring; my quest for a new capsule wardrobe has been officially launched.
These days, rather than getting inspiration from the pages of the glossy magazines, I seek out style and outfit ideas from some of my favourite fashion bloggers. The girls I tend to follow are those with a relaxed, yet confident sense of style that comprises wardrobe classics with some seasonal statements peppered in.
So yesterday, after a Saturday afternoon wandering the exhaustive rails in Harrods, I sat down with my laptop to see if any of these cyber fashionistas had been spotted wearing my endless winter wishlist and how.
The Blonde Salad was one of my first blog discoveries and reading about where Chiara Ferragni is and what cool collaboration she is working on next is still one of my daily rituals. Chiara is the ultimate fashion chameleon, going from floor length gowns to ripped up biker style in one effortless post, and this changing aesthetic only keeps things interesting The peplum hem blazer from McQ by Alexander McQueen is the definition of the perfect day to night piece. It could be worn over tailored trousers with pointed pumps for the office and dressed up with lashings of Mawi jewels for evening.
I generally overlook dresses in my seasonal shopping, however I am beginning to realise what an easy-wear piece my wardrobe is lacking. The Victoria by Victoria Beckham line is becoming known for its collection of everyday, one-piece staples and I instantly fell in love with several in my favoured monochrome palette. Australian blogger Nicole Warne, also known as Gary Pepper Girl is one of the most glamorous bloggers around. Often photographed running through sunflower fields with a cluster of colourful balloons or elegantly swinging from street lights in Paris, spotting Nicole wearing this tailored two tone dress demonstrates its versatility. Worn with a pair of masculine flats or pumps, this would make some seriously stylish office attire.
A sweater is a winter must-have and this season 3.1 Philip Lim have done some of the best. Internet ‘It Girl’ Julie Sarinana of Sincerely Jules has the dress version of the plaid jumper I have on my shopping list and wears it effortlessly. Worn with a pair of skinny black jeans and ankle boots, this would make a great weekend ‘brunch with friends’ outfit.
Monochrome lover Elin Kling always looks sophisticated dressed up or down, which makes her the ideal Saint Laurent muse. Having been on the quest for the perfect pair of leather trousers for some time, this head to toe Saint Laurent look has made its way to the top of my lust list. The capelet white blouse gives a feminine touch to the outfit, which could be worn to the office and beyond.
Blogger and new mum Hedvig from the Northern Light, wears classic elegance with a twist. As a fellow Stella McCartney advocate I could easily be tempted into this season’s statement tartan pieces also worn by Hedvig, but sticking to my ‘capsule wardrobe’ brief I am focusing on the classics. I could never pull off the denim dungarees as effortlessly as Hedvig, however the cashmere Stella McCartney jacket strikes the perfect smart/casual balance and can turn an otherwise trend led outfit into the realms of timeless style.
Camille Charriere, the French import of Camille over the Rainbow is the queen of off duty chic and has the ultimate wardrobe of black and navy that I could only dream to own. The blouses from French brand Equipment have been on my radar for some time, but seeing how Camille wears hers has reinforced what an easy on or off duty piece this could be.
As you can see, style inspiration can be drawn from many sources, and in my opinion, these girls are some of the best – they have certainly helped me justify my new seasonal purchases anyway, and I haven’t even gotten started on the accessories yet!
